In metal processing, external forces are used to force metals such as carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, etc. through molds, and their cross-section is compressed into the desired shape and size. This is our common wire drawing process. The drawing process is divided into dry drawing and wet drawing based on the different equipment and lubricants used. This article briefly introduces the common problems and solutions in wet drawing.

The selection of wet drawing process is generally aimed at metal drawing with small diameter, surface smoothness, or special requirements for subsequent processing technology. The main categories of wet pull lubricants include pure oil, synthetic oil, emulsion, paste, etc. The selection of wet drawing lubricants is mainly based on a comprehensive consideration of many factors such as raw material materials, molds, surface quality, and downstream applications. For example, when stainless steel is commonly used for drawing, pure oil with high viscosity and special extreme pressure additives is generally chosen. Emulsion is generally chosen for carbon steel, and pure oil or synthetic oil or emulsion can be chosen for non-ferrous metals according to application requirements. For those with special requirements, ointments can also be chosen.

By identifying the cause of its discoloration, corresponding solutions can be taken based on the actual situation. For example, if the concentration of the emulsion is too low, it will be raised to the normal standard; If the temperature is abnormal, it should be adjusted to a normal range of 35 degree ~45 degree ; Check if there is any wire drawing oil overflow at the outlet; Remove foreign oil products mixed in the emulsion.
